Description:
4/5ths to 2 1/2 inch long beetles, dark brown in colour,the elytra varying in colour from piceous black to reddish brown, antennal segments with spines at corners.
Seasonal occurrence:
June to September.

Life Cycle Stages:
Egg
elongated, cylinderical,sligthly swollen at the anterior end;egg shell is white and papery like consistence,opaque,shinning,with blunt rounded ends. length 18 inch.
Larva
elongate,tubercular,with asqarish section with head color black transverse with powerful mandibles and twelve segmentsdark yellow in color with dorsal shining plate of thicker and fully grown larva length is 3(12)inch.
Pupa
whistish yellow in color,head pressed upon the chest,legs are folded , rudimentary wings,7 segments are visible on dorsal surface of the nymph,antennae are curved backwards ,length is 2 inch.
Adult
4/5ths to 2 1/2 inch long beetles, dark brown in colour,the elytra varying in colour from piceous black to reddish brown, antennal segments with spines at corners.
Natural Enemies
Echneumone sp., Bothredera sp., Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae
Nature of damage caused
The grubs initially feed bark then sapwood and finally bore into the heartwood.
Control Measures
Enumeration of attacked trees,disposal of all infested materials by extraction,conversion and burning and trap-tree operation.
